Return to School or Work Guidelines

  • Students and Staff

Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 should notify the school by submitting the self-reporting form. In the case of an individual who is diagnosed with COVID-19 (lab confirmed positive test), the individual may not return to work/school until all three of the following criteria are met:

    1. At least 5 days have passed since symptoms first appeared; and
      • If asymptomatic, at least 5 days from the date of the positive viral test.
    2. At least one day (24 hours) has passed since recovery/resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications; and
    3. The individual has improvement in symptoms (e.g. cough, shortness of breath).

***It is recommended for the individual to continue to wear a well-fitting mask around others at home and in public for 5 additional days (day 6 through day 10) after the end of their 5-day isolation period. If they are unable to wear a mask when around others, they should continue to isolate for 10 days. ***

If the individual has symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and is presumed to be positive but wants to return to work/school before completing the above self-isolation period, the individual should obtain a medical professional’s note clearing the individual for return based on an alternative diagnosis OR obtain an acute infection test that comes back negative for COVID-19.

    • Individuals who are symptomatic and have been tested, should continue to isolate while awaiting test results.
