Request for evaluation
When someone believes that a student has a disability and needs special education and related services they can request an evaluation. This may be done by parents, guardians, teachers or administrators.
Notice of rights
Parents or guardians are given a copy of a document called Notice of Procedural Safeguards. This guide gives you a better understanding of the special education process and information about your rights and responsibilities so that you will be able to fully participate in the decision-making process regarding your child's education. You will also be asked for your consent to evaluate.
The student is evaluated using a variety of assessment tools and strategies to gather relevant functional, academic, and developmental information that may assist in making a determination of eligibility.
An ARD/IEP meeting is a meeting of parents, educators, and administrators who determine the special education supports and services that would best serve the needs of the student and develop an individual education plan.
